Curriculum at Blacklow Brow School

Curriculum contact – Head of School, Mrs J Williams

At Blacklow Brow School, we have developed and organised the curriculum to make learning exciting, meaningful and memorable for all our learners.

Children’s learning in the foundation subjects is organised into topics.

Alongside these topics we teach English and Maths on a daily basis. We encourage Reading, Writing and Maths to be fully embedded within the whole curriculum.

At  Blacklow Brow School, all our children are taught phonics through Read, Write Inc and Letters and Sounds.  In Ks1 we group the children based on baseline assessments.  They are then taught in small groups, based on ability.   Throughout the school, the children have access to real reading books and books from reading schemes.  Within KS2, the children following a spelling programme designed for their specific year group.
