On Tuesday 6th February 2018, Blacklow Brow School, part of The Dean Trust, was privileged to welcome the local children’s author, Audrey Wilson, who writes under the name of ‘Nanna Strawberry’. Nanna Strawberry has recently written a book about the Queens ascension to the throne on the 6th February 1952. She chose Blacklow Brow School to launch her book called ‘Nanna Strawberry Remembers the Young Queen’.
Nanna Strawberry led a whole school assembly with the children, where she explained how she found out about the new Queen whilst she was a teenager at school (66 years ago!). She also read passages from her new book (along with Head of School, Mrs Williams) and the children re-enacted a scene from the book by copying the shorthand practise that Nanna Strawberry had learned all those years ago. The children also went on to sing ‘God Save the Queen’ in their beautiful voices.

The children were very excited to receive signed copies of a variety of Nanna Strawberry books and also got to meet one of the illustrators of her book “Nanna Strawberry Goes Horse Riding”, Caitlin Westall, a Year 11 pupil at Lord Derby Academy.
Now the children will get to work on writing their own masterpiece and Nanna Strawberry and Caitlin will return to Blacklow Brow School next term to show the children how to write and illustrate their own book.
